PartyGaming IPO off and running

LONDON (AP) - Shares of PartyGaming PLC, the world’s biggest online-poker company, rose 11 per cent in their first day of trading Monday on the London Stock Exchange despite concerns of a possible crackdown on Internet gambling in the United States, where most of its players reside.

Shares in Gibraltar-based PartyGaming opened at an offer price of 116 pence (US$2.12) on the London Stock Exchange, valuing the company at 4.64 billion pounds ($8.46 billion). By the end of trading, the share price had risen to 129 pence ($2.35).

WSOP 2005 - Sorenson wins $5000 entry Seven Card Stud

Normally you will have a hard time finding a seven card stud game going on. While long the game of choice, it has been supplanted by Omaha and, more prominently, Texas Hold ‘Em. This wasn’t the case on Saturday night as the $5,000 Seven Card Stud championship was played out in the Amazon Room at the Rio. The event, to be broadcast as part of ESPN’s coverage of the 2005 World Series, started out with 192 players vying for the top prize of $293,275.

WSOP 2005 - $100 Million Prize Pool

Organizers of the World Series of Poker, the richest sporting event on the planet, today predicted the total prize pool at this year’s tournament will reach $100 million, more than doubling the record the event set just a year ago.
With a total of 45 events, the 36th annual World Series of Poker is the longest, largest and most prestigious event of its kind. Its unprecedented growth necessitated its move this year from its longtime home in downtown Las Vegas to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino just off the Strip, where the tournament is hosted in a 60,000-square-foot gaming area equipped with 200 poker tables.

WSOP 2005 - Quinn Do wins $2,500 Limit Holdem

Father’s Day found twenty men squaring off over the felt at Event #17 of the 2005 World Series of Poker, the $2,500 Limit Hold ‘Em Event. They were the survivors from a field of 373 that had originally started the event. Up for grabs was the top prize of $265,975 and the coveted World Series bracelet.
