Mac Poker Software

This is a complete listing of all the mac poker software resources available for the Apple Macintosh. You may have to dig around a bit, but eventually you will find below Mac online poker analysis with MacPokerPro, the latest updates to online poker rooms that are Mac compatible, and other standalone mac poker applications like Home Poker Hero.

Mac/OS X Software

Mac Poker Pro: Open End Software’s Mac Poker Pro has been updated to 1.25 - fix for new pokernetwork server software. Version 1.24 contains fixes to Tournament calculations and hopefully fixes some of the “player has left the table” problems. Version 1.22 (10/30/05) added TOURNAMENT SUPPORT. Yay!!. On prior updates they added support for all the other play and real money Poker Room skins, including Hollywood Poker. If you haven’t checked out their Tracking software, you must! It rocks. ton of statistics, automated player type determination. Now we finally can keep up with those PC based folks who’ve had the statistical edge against us. Also, Open End has a .mac Group - but support has transitioned at this point to their forums.

iPoker: The next piece of software you might like to pick up is Ouzts software’s iPoker. This poker simulator allows you to play up to 11 players in over 100 games of poker. Practice your patience at the poker table by folding 100s of hands with nothing at stake.

Poker Academy: Another program to check out is Poker Academy. Phil Hellmuth has just chosen this to be part of the course materials for his Poker Camp. It is available both for OS X and windows. I think this package is closely related to Haven’t evaluated this yet: www.poki-poker.com.

Home Poker Hero: Sandy Knoll Creek’s Home Poker Hero rocks! This is an OS X (or Windows) compatible Home Poker Tournament Timer. The demo version allows you to play set WPT blind level increases or constant doubling increases. You can choose the time per level. For more intricate, custom tournaments you need to buy the $4.95 full version. Worth it! Also even better is Sandy Knoll’s Poker Tournament Hero. Very customizable. You can do rebuy tourneys and much more on this sweet app.

Video Poker Solitarus: (1.05) Dan Labs Games lets you enjoy Vegas video poker on your Mac! From the Apple Design Award winning producers of Jammin’ Racer!!

Poker Journal:(1.53) DDeuce Poker Software allows you to track your poker sessions on your PalmOS device and calculates some standard statistics.

Poker Odds Calculator: Doc White Software provides this cocoa program that calculates the relative strengths of poker hands for a variety of popular poker games.

Hold’em Hand Comparator: Chewtoy’s Hold’em Hand Comparator will give you the percentage edge over your opponents at the poker table! He also has a few OS X widgets lying around including the Pokerroom Bankroll widget and a Buddy List widget.

Internet Tools

ProPoker Tools: (Alpha Version): javascript online calculator that gives you equity/win% for any hand vs. any hand. Fast. Easy to use online. Thanks to spoil.

Poker Charts: (www.pokercharts.com): haven’t used this myself. Looks professional and we have one good review of the software. This is web-based. Use it to track your wins and losses at various levels/games.

Mac OS X PC Emulators and PC Software

Virtual PC: (7.02) is reputed to work on Tiger 10.4.1. However this versiontracker comment thread suggests the update is far from bug-free. I was using Panther and VPC with success on my PB G4 Al (though one tabling, no poker tracker). It appears that Tiger and both VPC 6 and VPC 7 remain incompatible. Looks like it is Bugsy’s and Hollywood for me for now. For those with the fortitude and computing power and who have not upgraded to Tiger, you can use any of the PC client based sites (Party Poker, etc…) with VPC 6 or 7. If you are still using OS X 10.3, you can order Virtual PC from Amazon here. Or click on the Amazon Ad on the left sidebar.

iEmulator: (www.iemulator.com) Looks promising. Cost =$24. Haven’t tried it out myself. No demo available. Hmmm. Let me know if anyone has used this.

Guest PC: (Lismore Systems) Another one to try out. Cost = $70

Darwine: (Darwine Project) Still in alpha development. Looks really promising though.

The following are software recommendations that can be run either online or via Virtual PC It would be nice if their equivalents appeared for the Mac.

Poker Tracker: Essential - for anyone on parallels or another emulator on your mactel, Poker Tracker does an unbelievable job of tracking your play. You can glean so much by combing through various outputs. You might have to buy the Poker Tracker Guide to get all you can out of it. Every online pro uses Poker Tracker.

Poker Ace Heads Up Display: Essential - for anyone playing on parallels or another emulator on your mactel PaHUD takes your pokertracker stats and displays them “heads up” on top of the room you are playing. A great piece of software. Check out PaHUD from PokerAce Software.

Turbo Texas Hold’em: This is the software that many of the author’s of the classic texts base their calculations on. It gets mixed reviews, even after the 2002 edition. Truthfully, iPoker 3 (see Macintosh Software page) will give you most of the statistical information that you would find on Turbo Texas hold’em.

No Hands Hold’em: Another item on the wish list of the beleaguered Mac Poker enthusiast. This, and other software like it, watches your Party Poker or Poker Stars game, calculates instant odds for you, and warns about board conditions. In addition it accumulates information about each of the players at the table with you. As of right now this is the closest option available to a Mac user. PlayerViewNET is another of these. This is a skin that lays directly on top of Party Poker and provides much of the same information. Online Hold’em Inspector is yet another.
